More about Dr. Hooper

Regular visits to the dentist have been proven to help prevent dental decay and gum disease.

We recommend that our patients visit our office every 3-6 months for routine preventive care to maintain their oral health and uncover early warning signs of disease.

At each preventive visit, Dr. Hooper and your Dental Hygienist will perform a complete dental examination to evaluate the condition of your teeth, gums and jaw joints. Using necessary digital xrays and visual examination, they will look for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, bone loss or other underlying dental problems such as abscesses or infection.

If there are no signs of periodontal (gum) disease, your Dental Hygienist will clean and polish your teeth to remove stains and any hard tartar deposits. Should there be evidence of gum disease, Dr. Hooper may recommend periodontal therapy to treat the infection and stop the progress of this destructive condition.

We may recommend fluoride treatments or sealants for your child to help prevent tooth decay.

Sportsguards. If you or your child are involved in athletic or recreational sports that involve contact or possible falls, we recommend that you wear a sportsguard to protect your teeth, lips and cheeks from injury.

Oral Cancer Screening. In the U.S., oral cancer is responsible for one death every hour, 24 hours a day (www.oralcancer.org). As part of your oral health assessment, Dr. Hooper will thoroughly examine the tongue and oral soft tissue to look for changes or lesions that may be signs of oral cancer.

The Oral Health Connection
Research continues to draw a number of links between oral health and overall physical health and well-being:

Bacteria that cause periodontal (gum) disease have been identified as risk factors for patients with diabetes and heart disease.

Dental checkups are now an important part of prenatal medical care guidelines. Studies show that oral infection can affect a mother's hormone levels; this has been linked as a contributing risk factor for low birth weight deliveries. It is also possible for a new mother to transfer oral infections to her infant child. (health.nv.gov)

Managing your family's dental health is easily accomplished with good planning.

The key to oral health is maintaining a regular routine of preventive dental care visits with us. During these visits, Dr. Hooper will perform a complete dental examination to look for signs of decay or periodontal (gum) disease. He will also advise you of any developmental issues with your child's teeth and address any orthodontic concerns as early as possible.

Equally important at these appointments, our dental hygienist will talk with you and your child about home care and nutrition habits that can go a long way in keeping your smiles healthy.

We may recommend preventive measures, such as dental sealants, fluoride treatments, or mouth sportsguards to protect your child's oral health.

Studies have proven that how we feel about our smile affects our self-confidence and influences how we interact with others in social and work relationships.

Rebuilding Your Smile
Tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the human body. When this protective layer is broken down by disease or trauma, the risk of tooth pain, infection and tooth loss is increased if the damage is not repaired. Restorative dentistry procedures may be used to rebuild and replace natural tooth structure to return normal function to your bite and help prevent further dental problems.

Restorative dentistry offers options to address a number of smile challenges:

  • Decayed teeth or fractured fillings
  • Missing teeth
  • Aged and discolored crown and bridge work
  • Loose and ill-fitting dentures
  • Misaligned bite and related jaw pain
  • Gum disease due to non-cleansable tooth surfaces
  • Collapsed bite

Our Restorative Services include:

  • All-Porcelain Crowns & Bridges
  • Dental Implants
  • Complete Dentures
  • Root Canals
  • White Fillings
  • Implant Supported Dentures
  • Partial Dentures

Teeth are about more than just a pretty smile. Your body's digestive systems depend on a healthy, functional bite. Missing teeth or teeth that have been structurally compromised make it difficult to chew properly, and can limit the types of foods you eat, leading to poor nutrition habits and other health consequences.

The best way to protect your oral health is with a consistent daily routine of brushing and flossing, and visiting Dr. Hooper and your Dental Hygienist regularly for preventive dental care. Should you have teeth in need of restoration, we will review all of your options with you and help you plan to get the care that you need to keep your smile healthy and happy.
